Daniel 3:8-18: Who Is That God That Shall Deliver You?

Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews. They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever! You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up."

Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?"

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up."   (NKJV)

Daniel 3: 13- 18         WHO IS THAT GOD THAT SHALL DELIVER YOU ?
Introduction:

The book of Daniel is a prophetic book that gives us a bird-side view into the origin and the conquests of 4 Gentile kingdoms. …4 world empires …3 that have come and gone….and the 4th one that's ongoing ...that is, for now will soon to come to past…and will be the last empire man will ever lead. God gave Daniel a prophetic “panoramic” view of their hierarchies… the kings that sat upon their thrones, how the 1st kingdom fell to the 2nd ….the 2nd  kingdom fell  to the 3rd. ..,that 3rd fell to the 4th and current kingdom… and ultimately  how all these 4 combined world kingdoms  would fall to God’s sovereign heavenly kingdom…a” kingdom…that Daniel calls the "stone kingdom"….

 What is the Stone Kingdom?
It's "that stone" that was hewn out of the mountain; "that stone" that became "the chief corner stone;" that “omnipotent” stone; that "omniscient" stone, that "omnipresent" stone, that "immutable" never changing stone… "that stone" that's the same yesterday...today...and forevermore....whose kingdom shall have no end; whose kingdom that strikes all of the other kingdoms at their feet and breaks them up into pieces and then consumes them with the sword of His Mouth…and  then sets up His heavenly kingdom- the Millennial kingdom right here on earth.

What Daniel wrote in the 3rd chapter this book earmarked the 2nd time in modern human history when the HAND OF GOD moved mightily in the affairs of nations and people. There are  3 other times in Bible history God moved mightily in this way...

God's Hand Moving Through History:

The 1st time was the time of the Exodus…. After 430 years of slavery, God used Moses and 10 plagues… to go and tell Pharoah to let His people go… God freed “His chosen people” from Egyptian bondage. He protected them with his divine presence, as a cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night…. And at the banks of the Red Sea…God caused the water to rolled up… on both side, and they crossed over to freedom on dry ground…

Then the 3rd time is the “historic axis” on which all time periods stand. The 3rd time in human history brought us the birth and ministry of our Messiah Jesus Christ. The 3rd time is that important time in the total annals of all history because the Word became human flesh and dwell among us and we beheld his glory as the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth.  Concluding with

The 4th time is this present time, It started at the cross, where we first saw the light…. And the burden of our heart rolled away. It moved to Joseph’s new tomb, where in the underworld where the first paradise resided. He revealed himself to all of the saints of the Old Testament all of  them, who looked for HIS day. Well, there had to be great joy in paradise because the Bible said that when Jesus died…the graves opened up… and all the dead saints got up from the graves and marched in the streets of Jerusalem, having a victory celebration…and from the resurrection from the grave to 120 people in the upper room, where in Acts 1:8, Jesus told the disciples to wait. You will receive power, after that the Holy Ghost will come upon them. And after the Holy Ghost empowers you, all of you will become witnesses, in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria and then in the uttermost parts of the world…..

Concerning Nebuchadnezzar:
Now…in our text, this 2nd time in world history; 25 years later after the siege of Jerusalem and the desecration of Solomon’s temple  and they have come face o face with Jeremiah’s 70 year captivity prophecy. Nebuchadnezzar builds a  gold colossal image and placed it in the plain of Dura… a province of Babylon. This image was 3 SCORE CUBITS, in height…that is…it was 60 CUBITS  high… when measured out in standard measures with one cubit  being ,the equivalent of 18 inches it was 90 feet high) HIGH  and 6 CUBITS  in width  or 9 feet wide.
After the image was built, Nebuchadnezzar dedicated the image. Invitations were sent out. He invited: viceroys, governors, captains,  judges, every treasurers, counselors, sheriffs, every rulers from each province was invited more like summoned to pay homage to that golden image. When all the invited guest arrived… the Bible said … a herald stepped forth …and made the following decree: O you people, nations and languages. At the time that you hear the music… when the music splits the air;…when you hear the sound of the cornet, the flute, the harp, the sackbut, the dulcimer and all kind of music… all of you are to fall down… and worship the golden image that  Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up…Anyone who  refuses to fall down… and worship the image… shall be cast the same hour…into midst of a burning, fiery furnace…. What a pompous decree!

What Prompted  Nebuchadnezzar to do this?

NOW, WHAT prompted Nebuchadnezzar to do SOMETHING LIKE THIS? If you remember, God used THIS KING… to fulfill the 70-year prophecy that caused a disobedient  Southern kingdom to go into captivity in the first place.  Not only that,  THIS KING, on 2 PRIOR OCCASIONS saw the AWESOME POWER OF GOD at WORK… right before his very eyes. And yet, after all God showed him in power and in splendor, here it is 25 years later, he dared to do a thing like this? We, like this king in many ways fall into the same boat. How many times have we done something crazy after God did something great for us… God did one miracle after another for us… and  even through us …How many times have God brought us from darkness to deliverance …from disgrace to amazing grace…from sickness to health ……to better from worse …and from poverty to prosperity….from the back of the bus to this day when they now leave the driving to us…and yet like this king … sooner of   later…we end up doing something …off the wall…and completely in left field… in disobedience to God and lift ourselves up in pride…looking for praise instead of giving God the praise!

The FIRST TIME he saw the power of God was in what God did with these Daniel and these 3 men as they were going through THAT 3-YEAR  brainwashing course.  Everybody in that  school was required to eat the SAME meat that the king ate and drink the  SAME WINE that the king drank. DANIEL had  PURPOSED in his heart that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE would he or would the 3 Hebrew boys eat the king’s meat or drink the king’s drink..The point in the decision Daniel made applies to us in the following manner...My brothers and sisters……we got to live this life with a godly purpose in our heart! …Our HEARTS must be fixed,… and our minds must be MADE UP that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES… will we DEFILE OURSELVES with the meat and drink of this sinful world……As an individual you got to be persuaded… that YOU’RE NOT GOING TO LET NOTHING… SEPARATE YOU FROM THE LOVE OF GOD… nor LET NOBODY turn you away from God's way!
Well, after Daniel cut a deal for a different diet The 4 of them ate PULSE… MASHED BEANS and drank water… for 10 days.…After  the 10 days…they were brought before he king… when the king looked at them…  they looked healthier, better and fairer… their minds were keener …they were smarter than everybody else that ate what the king said eat ….and drank what the king said drink. I stopped by here to tell you that GOD WILL BLESS you and give you favor!…God blesses faithfulness!…! If you will stand for what is right and stay steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord …..LOOK AT WHAT GOD DID!  GOD GAVE ALL 4 of them SUPERIOR KNOWLEDGE… SUPERIOR WISDOM and SUPERIOR SKILL… in EVERY AREA OF LEARNING AND WISDOM…WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE! They were able to do all things through their God who gave them strength!

The SECOND TIME the king experienced God's power in his presence is the basis of why he had the image built in the first place. Nebuchadnezzar had that troubling dream … couldn’t remember what he dreamt or remember what the dream meant. He had put out a decree to all of the wise men of Babylon. He told them if they could tell him what the dream was and what the dream meant, all of them would receive gifts, rewards and great honor, but if they didn’t, all of them would be killed.
The wise men tried to reason with the king and said to the king…King, if you could just tell us what was you dreamt about… and give us some time, we could then interpret this dream. The king said angrily, I told you I forgot the dream!! Why are you trying to bide for time for… anyway…You’re all supposed to be wise men … either you tell me… what the dream is…. and tell me what it meant without lying to me… or I will kill all of you. The Chaldeans then told the king; what you are asking us to do is a rare thing. ..Nobody in the flesh could this… only the gods whose dwelling…. is not in flesh could do such a thing! Well…, after the king sent out an angry decree… to kill all of the wise men in Babylon….. Daniel got wind of what had happened and told the officer…. let me have a hearing with the king.  In situations like this, we have to recognize when God opens a "witness door" and give us the opportunity to use the "spiritual gifts" he’s given us to men to see the good works in us but give God the glory.

Daniel's Interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's Dream

At that hearing, I can hear Daniel saying Oh Nebuchadnezzar…the God  that I serve and he alone…   told me what it was you dreamed about…. and it was he that gave me  the interpretation of your dream , My GOD  is the only one that  can gives TRUE AND ACCURATE DISCERNMENT . Daniel then told the king not only exactly what he dreamed, but also he told him what the vision meant. The king fell on his face and said Daniel you’re right! That’s exactly what I dreamt. It is of a truth that Your God is a God of gods, and a Lords of kings and a revealer of secrets because you are the only one that was able to reveal the secret….So you can see that after all that this king had already seen God do before his eyes, it didn’t make since for the king do build this image so why did he do it in the first place. Well there are 2 reasons why he did this!

 "Human reasoning":

The first reason is the king got arrogant and full of himself….It wasn’t enough that Daniel  told the king that the head of gold represented the kingdom he already had!  But it became apparent this wasn’t enough for the king. The fact that the image that he had made was all gold  lets us know… THE KING really got full of himself …and thought his kingdom was to reign forever!… HE forgot that he was mortal …. He forgot that he had no control of how the future kingdoms were to take place. He forgot that the stone that was hurled at the feet of the image he saw in his dream was the one who controls the destiny of nations and people which included him! There are a lot of people like that in many of our churches. and in today's society. They are privileged to have a position of power and given charge over a group or a project… but before too long, some of them… soon get full of themselves and now think that they should be in charge of everything at all the times!… Some people are so insatiable…that means hard to satisfy! ….It doesn’t matter what you do or let them do…for some people…ENOUGH  IS NEVER ENOUGH!

"Prophetic":

The 2nd reason was prophetic and historic LITTLE did the king know… that his actions…in making this decree for the people to bow down and worship of this golden image …marked the 2nd time of what will become 3 failed attempts in biblical and modern history that the devil has tricked  man into consolidating all  nations and people into a one-world government and a one-world religious system in an attempt to live live devoid of the influences of Almighty God… The 1st time happened in ‘Genesis 11 at the tower of Babel. The people got together in the land of Shinar,  in defiance to God’s command to scatter out over the "4 corners" of the earth after God had empowered and instructed them to spread out over the face of the earth and replenish it and share the Oracles of God with those they came in contact with. In defiance, the people got together and declared "Lest we become scattered over the face of the earth, let us make us a name and let us.. build us a city and a tower and let us build the top of that tower in such a way that it will reach up into the heavens"

Well, the Bible said God came down, looked at what they were doing and God said: They have become as one people…. They have one language…. and this thing they begin to do…. Now they won’t be restrained from whatever they imagine to. It was as if God was saying..."If we don’t do something; if we don’t confound their language, and scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth, there is no telling what they might do! I don’t know about you but…I ‘M SO GLAD THAT GOD HAS PLACED LIMITS on WHAT WE CAN and CANNOT DO, because, it is painfully obvious if GOD DIDN’T confound and confuse us sometimes…..If we weren’t challenged sometimes…if God didn’t   force us in situations where we had no alternative but to scrap our plans and change directions, even scatter us sometime…."Ain’t no telling" what we might do…I’ll come back to the 2nd time in a minute….! WELL….

THE 3RD and final attempt to consolidate world into a new world order and a one- world religion is going on right now…look at everything that is going on…everything’s global: global government…global economy…global churches…global corporations…pictured global identification cards… world councils of churches…one church in multiple locations…home land security or is it home land surveillance…big brother has his eye on us.. everywhere we go…and nearly everything we do…in the streets…. Inside our homes…in the bathrooms…..on our jobs…military flying high over head…is it for security or is it for surveillance…. What God once scattered and confused at the tower of Babel…now…the internet has consolidated and brought scattered people of all language  right INTO OUR VERY HOMES…on a computer screen…at the click of a mouse...In many cases…we no longer have real church… we are now doing our own worldly brand of church! We are living in the last days…Listen to the music of this life…

What happened to the Hebrew Boys?

Well, the music played.  The cornet played. The flute played. The harp played. The sackbut played. The dulcimer played and the bible said that everybody began to bow down, but 3 young men: Shadrach, Meshach and Abenego.  Well, the bible said some nosy Chaldeans who would have head their heads bowed down look around and noticed  that these Hebrew young men were still standing and because they were jealous of them anyway they started sucking up and tattle-tailing to the king can’t you hear them saying…. Oh King live forever. King, didn’t you make a decree that every man that heard the sound of the music and the instruments play was to bow down and worship the image? Didn’t you also say that whosoever didn’t bow down would be placed at that moment in the midst of a burning fiery furnace? Well king, when we bowed, we looked around and we noticed that those three Hebrew men Shadrach, Meshach and Abenego that didn’t bow to the music, nor bow to the sound of the instruments, neither did they worship the image.  King, they don’t have any regard to your decree. They won’t even serve your gods nor give worship to the image! …Not only this, but king ...this looks real bad… because you made all three of them rulers in your kingdom …..and it’s an insult to your kingship to have non-conformers in the kingdom…. ruling in the kingdom….

Boy did this make the king mad, and in his raging fury he commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abenego be brought to him immediately! They came before th king… the king asked them while still burning with rage….is it true O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abenego ….that you do not serve my gods ….nor worship the golden image that I have set up? Maybe you didn’t understand the decree… and maybe this is why you didn’t bow down…so I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt …and I am going to spell it out for you… I’m going to give it to you straight from the king’s mouth…. Now if you are ready…the next time you hear the sound of the cornet, the flute, the harp, the sackbut, then dulcimer and all kinds of music…. And you fall down and worship the golden image that I have set up…. then I will forget about what I heard about you…. But if you don’t fall down and worship the image….. you will be cast at the same hour into a burning, fiery furnace and who is that god that will deliver you out of my hand?

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abenego looked the king in the face and said Oh King, we have no need to answer you in this manner. If what you say is true… and this is what will happen… we now will  tell you that our God,… whom we serve is able to deliver us from the fiery furnace …and He will deliver us out of you hand O king!… But even if he doesn’t… let it be known to you… that under no circumstances will we serve your gods,…nor will we worship… the golden image that you sat up..

Making a "public stance"

The time has come when we as the saints of God need to make a  public stand on our profession of our faith and God centered convictions and declare to the world… no matter what! I doesn’t matter if our jobs are on the line. It doesn’t matter if our belief in Jesus Christ might land us in jail. It doesn’t matter if the government seize all of our assets and Satan himself unleash all the hounds of hell upon us, we have got to tell this world and all the people of the world the same thing that Job said: Yet though he slay me, I will still serve Him. You can persecute us all you want to! We serve a God that is able to deliver us from the fiery trials of this life and even if He chooses not to deliver us, we will NEVER NEVER…NO…NOT EVER bow down and serve the god of this world!!
The king is really mad now the bible says that he called for his most mighty men out of his army to seize these three men, bind them, and throw in the fiery furnace. Before he threw them in, he told them to heat the fire seven times as hot.as it was… The number seven is the number of completion. This meant the king told them to heat the fire as high as it could be heated. The king also ordered that all of their garments that they owned be place on their bodies from head to toe. so there wouldn’t be any trace of their existence left in his kingdom. The fire was so hot, that the men that had bound Shadrach, Meshach, and Abenego and threw them into this fiery furnace were burned up and died from the heat of the fire. Shadrach, Meshach and Abenego  fell down, bound in the fiery furnace. But look ahere! As Shadrach, Meshach and Abenego stood unbound in the midst of this scorching fire,  walking around in the fire. The king then noticed something strange going on!  The bible said He became astonished and ran over to the fiery furnace to see what was going on. What he noticed was so strange, that he called over his counselors and asked them: Didn’t we throw 3 men into this fire? Well I see the three men and they are walking around in the fire. THE FIRE hasn’t  burned them…

Freed from the Burning Furnace:

WELL I’VE GOT TO GO NOW  BUT, BEFORE I GO, and take my seat  LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT 2 OTHER times  written in the bible WHEN SOMETHING  or someone WAS ENGULPED IN FIRE but the fire,,, didn’t burn them up! On  Mount Sinai when Moses went up into the mountain of God saw a burning bush in the mountain. The bush was on fire, but the bush didn’t burn up. When Moses approached that bush I heard… the voice of God say….Moses ….before you can come any closer…take the sandals off your feet for the ground you stand on is holy ground…..The other time happened in the upper room on the day when Pentecost had fully come120 people were waiting in that room for the power of the Holy Ghost! All of a sudden they heard a sound come from heaven …like a rushing mighty wind …And that sound filled the whole room…the next thing they knew…. something appeared before them that looked like cloven tongues of fire …this same tongues of fire lit on each one of them…The next thing they knew…the Holy Ghost fire had set their souls on holy fire…..It was like fire…shut up in their bones…. The common denominator in all 3 cases is in every case in that fire was the presence…. of Almighty God….I’m so glad that when we are thrown in the fiery furnace of trials and tribulation, God will stand in the fire and shield us from hurt harm or danger… I heard the king say: I see the three men walking around in the fire, but wait a minute! I don’t see 3 men! I see 4 men walking around in the fire and the forth man is like the Son of God! Let me tell you! Let the lightning flash! Let the thunder roll! Let the waves beat up against the seas of life! All you got to do is hold on to God'’ unchanging hand and everything will be alright!

Conclusion: Who is that God:  A "Deliverer and a Savior"

Once the king recognized the presence of the Son of God...he realized that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abenego were protected by their God and no hurt, harm or danger would come to them. He realized that their God is God over all gods, the Lord over all lords. and the KIng over all kings. Nebuchadnezzar called  to them in the midst of the fiery furnace.."Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here." Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king's counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God! Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this." Finally, Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego again in the province of Babylon. What good news can we take from their experience?

What this really means is when you place your life in God's Holy and Protective hands, you can still praise him in the midst of all of your troubles, all of your trials even in the midst of all times of tribulations....The songwriter once said: "Time is filled with swift transition...None on earth can stand....Build your hopes on things eternal...hold to God's unchanging hand! Be not dismayed whatever betides....God will take care of you...Let me ask you: Do you know Him? Have you tried him? The Lord we serve will meet you in all of your fiery trials and make everything alright... Yes he will!

Who is that God that will deliver us …Well he is the lilly of the valley….He’s the bright and morning star…He’s a battleaxe in the time of war…He's a very present help in the time of trouble...He’s a friend that sticks closer than a brother…He is that bridge over troubled water…..he is the King of Kings and Lord of lords… He is the Rose of Sharon.. He is that God that God is able  to keep us from falling and present us faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding Joy… he is that God that can do exceedingly and abundantly whatever we ask or think to ask… He is that God  that so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son into the world that whosoever believe in Him should not perish but have eternal life. He is Jesus …THE ONE who died on the cross to save you and me! …Yes…He died! Yes He did! He died until the earth started rocking and reeling! He died until the mountain skipped like lambs! He died until the sun refused to shine because the Son was dying! He died until the graves open up and all the dead saints got up and march in the streets of Jerusalem and staged a victory celebration praising God for their deliverance He died until the centurion gave a one- line eulogy; You want to know what he said? Surely this must have been the Son of God! Jesus stop dying long enough to open the doors of the church to let a wayward sinner in telling him that this day that he would be with Him in paradise! He died! They buried him in a borrowed tomb, but early, early on Sunday morning, He got up with all power in His Hands Power to deliver! Power to make your enemies leave you alone! Power to put food on the table, clothes on your back! I don't know how you feel about it all I can say to you is : All in His hands...I put it all in His hands...All of my troubles...my trials...without any questions....All in His hands... yes I put it all...I put it all in his hands...In His hands...IN HIS HANDS!

What The Ministry Is All About: 8 Characteristics of the Gospel Ministry

"8 Characteristics of the Gospel Ministry" From the Book of 2 Corinthians 2: 14 THROUGH 6:10

In the Book of 2 Corinthians, Paul addresses the “New Covenant” and gives detail description and purpose of the gospel ministry by showing us in his letter written to the Church of Corinth from Chapters 2:14 to Chapter 6:10 the relevance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Not only is it the power of God unto salvation…to everyone that believes it… but the gospel is just as relevant today as it was during Paul's time.  Paul shared "8 truths" concerning a God ordained ministry that continue to shape the church es in today's society.

1.     The Gospel Ministry is a “New Covenant Ministry” whose flagship statement is 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new". The Ministry is triumphant in Christ. That’s why Paul said in Chapter 2:14: Thanks be unto God which causes us to triumph in Christ and make manifest the savor of His knowledge of us in every place…

2.     The Gospel ministry is an “accredited ministry”…”Accredited” because it is God that causes the preacher who answered the call and dedicate themselves to Christ and the ministry to succeed whenever the Gospel is preached. …Let me tell you something… Gospel preaching has never failed to convert a “repentant” sinner to salvation …God made man a “free moral agent” with the power to make his own choices… ”Rejection” of the gospel on our part does not make the Gospel message a failure….We fail if we refuse to heed the Gospel…that  ole traditional saying is oh so true…Jacob will not lose his reward if Israel refuses to hear …If anyone goes to hell….it was their choice and it’s because they "rejected Jesus"…

The reason you and I live according to the Gospel is we heard the voice of Jesus say…come unto Him and rest….Lay down thy weary one lay down….your head upon my breast…And guess what….We came to Jesus….just as we were….weary… wounded…and sad…and we found in HIM a resting place…and HE had made us glad…Now…I feel the same way Paul does….I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ… for it is the power of God…unto salvation…to everyone that believes it…It was preached to the Jews first…but a sad thing happened…John tells us in John 1:11: He…I’m talking about Jesus….came to His own…the Jews.. and as a nation and HIS chosen people….they received HIM not…but  and the fact that you and I are saved is concrete evidence of the ministry’s accreditation….because as many of us that did receive Him…whether Jew of Gentile….HE gave power to become the sons of God….even unto them that called upon His name…

3.     The Ministry is “spiritual and glorious, not “legalistic”…It’s spiritual and glorious  because as ministers of the New Testament and of the New Covenant that’s in Christ Jesus, we are not driven by the letter….we are driven by the Holy Spirit. Paul said the "letter of the Law"… is "a killer", but the "Holy Spirit" gives life…As glorious as the Law is and it is glorious, because the Law came from the righteousness of God and in its truest sense being God’s code of conduct to man…cannot be abolished… .but that glorious Law gave way to something even more glorious..It gave way to the living “Lawgiver” Jesus Christ who said: I came not to destroy the Law but fulfilled it, and by fulfilling it in love…HE left us 2 “Love Laws by which all the Law and the prophets hang upon. The Love we must have for God and the love we must show toward our fellow man…

4.     The Ministry (that came from God) is "honest and not deceitful". Paul said the reason this is so because it is revealed through the preaching of the gospel, that we obtained mercy from God, and in God granting mercy, Paul said as sincere ministers, we have renounced or distanced ourselves from the "hidden things" of dishonesty. We are to refuse to walk in craftiness…nor handle the Word of God in a deceitful manner, but by the manifestation of the truth, we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience. Remember, we don’t preach ourselves, we preach Jesus Christ. the Lord. We preach Christ because it is in Jesus Christ that God commanded the light to shine out of darkness.

5.     The ministry is a "ministry of suffering"…Paul said we are always bearing "the dying" of the Lord Jesus in our bodies so the life of Jesus might be made manifest in our bodies. The songwriter Vickie Wymans said it this way: we are lied on….cheated...talked about….mistreated…we are buked…scorned…talked about as sure as you’re born….We’re up….we’re down…almost leveled to the grown but long we got King Jesus….don’t need nobody else…

6.     The Ministry is “ambitious”. It’s “ambitious” because one day we have both a “death date” and a “court date”…Paul said For we know if our earthly house…this physical tabernacle were dissolved ....and it will dissolve….we have another building…a house of God …not made with hands…and eternal in the heavens. We all have an appointment with death….unless we happen to be alive when the rapture takes place. And we’re changed in the moment and a twinkling of an eye….Like it or not…this is not our permanent home…This physical flesh of bones, tendons, sinews… water …muscles…mucus… blood and skin will one day decompose and return to dust…. Lord said: from dust thou art and from dust we will return ….but…as children of the Most High God…we also have a “court date”. We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that everyone may receive the things done in their bodies…based on what they did in these bodies …whether it was good or bad. That day will be known asI: the Believers Award’s Day Ceremony…Our trophies and ribbons will be handed out…Some of us will have a little ….some of us will have a lot…but all of us will be saved…who have been washed in the blood of the Lamb…The Pastor and I are ambitious…that you get the “Jesus message” of the Gospel… as ministers of the Gospel…we ‘re called to compel you to read it ….take heed to it…..live your lives by it….and go somewhere and share it with somebody else….

7.  The Ministry has a "primary motive": The "motive" of the Gospel ministry is to persuade men…to compel them to come into the sheep fold…to understand  that the purpose of preaching the Word of God and having the living testimony of Jesus Christ  is to tell a sin-sick dying world that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation… Tell them that Jesus died for us all that we might have hope and a right to the tree of life. And because HE did for us all…we should no longer seek to live for ourselves, but strive to live a "Jesus filled" life, to become ambassadors for Christ, to understand what a songwriter once wrote: that "a charge" to keep we have….a God to glorify….who gave His Son….our souls to save and fit it for the sky… Yes…we got to serve…this present age our calling to fulfill….Oh…made it all…our power engaged….to do Our Master’s will"…

8. The Ministry is “supernatural”…Jesus founded the church….Jesus said: Upon this rock…I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it…Paul said : “Called preachers” work together with Christ and we plead with you that you have not received the grace of God in vain... In other words…that you don’t profess one thing…. but live another…saying that you belong to Jesus but live in a way that diametrically opposite of your profession of faith. This ministry calling is holy and divine and must be treated as such. Satan is going to go out of his way to derail your part of this mission and will present many temptations and challenges to you in his feeble attempt to foil God's overall plan for the world and people. Know that whatever he attacks you with and whatever angle he attacks you from, God can and will deliver you from and out of each and every one of them. Jude 24-25 putit this way: "Now unto HIM that is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before His presence with exceeding joy. To the only wise God our Savior be GLORY AND MAJESTY...DOMINION AND POWER BOTH NOW AND EVER...AMEN...

Revelation 3:1-4:1 "The Last 3 Churches of Asia Minor"
The Dead Church...The Faithful Church...The Lukewarm Church
Sardis:    "The Dead Church"
"And to the angel of the church in Sardis write,
'These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: "I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.
"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'

Philadelphia:      "The Faithful Church"
"And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write,
'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, "He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens":  "I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name. Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie — indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.  "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'

Laodicea:     The Lukewarm Church

"And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' — and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked —  I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.  "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'    (NKJV)

Bible Study Outline: Outline of Revelation Chapter 3 Church of Sardis…Church of Philadelphia…Church of Laodicea:
This Bible Outline will discuss the last 3 of the 7 Churches in Asia Minor from 3 Biblical points of view: “Historically” (how each church possibly represented a certain period in the Church age) “Spiritually” (as the “spirit’ or behavior of the people can be found in people in the modern church) and as “Actual Churches” in Biblical Time. As with the first 4 churches, each one of the letters written to these churches also contained the phrase:  "I know thy works." Each one of them contains either an indictment, contained a threat, and all of them contained a “promise”:  "To him that overcometh." All of the church letters ended with the phrase:  "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches. Notice how Jesus addressed himself to each church. The Lord addresses each church in the way that is designed to get their undivided attention and to bring them face to face with their social and spiritual state. Each letter was sent based on geographic proximity.
I.         The Message to the Church of Sardis  “ The Dead Church”    (Verse 1-6)
Church History:
Jesus called the Church at Sardis a “dead” church even though the church had several names: “prince of joy”, “escaping one” and “those who come out.”  Dr. Clarence Larkin wrote in his book “Dispensational Truth, “Sardis was accused of being a “formalistic church,” a church that became “ritualistic” and formal in their form of worship”. The church was full of cliques and clans and was more politically driven than spiritually fervent. The Apostle Paul aptly described this type of church as having a “form” of God, but “denying the power thereof”. Jesus called this type of church as “whitewashed tombs full of dead men’s bones.” Sardis was the church period when the reformation or the protest against the “Papal” church because of the many false teachings, tyranny and the autonomic claims of what became the Roman Catholic Church and the “sovereignty” or “total autonomy” of the Pope. On October 31, 1517 A.D., a German Monk named Martin Luther in protest of the skewed doctrines of the Papal church wrote and nailed his 95 theses on the door of a Papal church in Whittenburg, Germany. This act earmarked the beginning of the “Protestant Movement” and the day that Reformation set in. Unfortunately, it turned out to be more of a struggle for political liberty than a Christian/religious movement. However, out of the Protestant Movement, the mode of church worship became less formal and became more simplistic. Not only this, but the Doctrine of “Justification by Faith” was revived and the Protestant movement opened the door for more Non-Papal religious sects, (denominations) which over the course of history caused more contentions and controversies that can be felt in the church even today. The Sardis Period lasted 230 years and extended from 1520 A.D. to about 1750 A.D.
A.     Greetings from Jesus: “He that has the 7 Spirits and the 7 Stars”       (vs.1 and 4)
Note:  Most scholars believe this refers to the Holy Spirit and the number 7 represents the fullness of the Spirit this phrase is believed to mean that as Jesus sent forth the Holy Spirit into the world, as His agent and our Comforter, Jesus could withhold or allow His spirit to rest upon the church or person as He saw fit. This was to show Sardis that Jesus was in complete control of every church regardless of state and stature.
B.   Jesus Commendation: “I know Your works” He was intimately acquainted with all that they did, good and bad, and that therefore he was abundantly qualified to dispense rewards or administer punishments according to truth and justice.
1.  You have a name that live,” but you are “dead”
That is, you have the reputation of being Christians, and outwardly appear to be alive in the public’s eye and through the quickening influence of the divine Spirit; but ye are dead because you don’t have the life of God in your souls, You haven’t  walked consistently and steadily before God, and his Spirit has been grieved with you, and he has withdrawn much of his light and power.
2.  There a few in Sardis with “undefiled” garments. They are worthy. (vs. 4)
Despite the outbreak of widespread idolatry, there were some who held true to the faith and remained steadfast in the faith. And they shall walk with me in white, that is, they would appear in white raiment in heaven, for they are worthy.
Note: These members of the Sardis church have shown themselves worthy to be regarded as followers of the Lamb; or, they have a character that is suited for heaven. They haven’t laid claim to heaven based on their own merit or works, but Jesus declared that they should thus appear in heaven. We are all personally unworthy to be admitted to heaven, but we may have such a character as to show that, according to the arrangements of grace, it is fit and proper that we should be received there that is, we have the character to which God has promised eternal life.
C.    Jesus’ Challenge and Warning:               5 Things                        (vs. 2-3)
1.  Be watchful: You lost focus and have left some things undone. Wake up and stay alert (focused).
2.  Strengthen those things that remain: Revival of people and ministry and hold on to the power of God to do his will even in the midst of fierce persecution. Watch and pray and continue to do those things that are pleasing to God. People were giving up because of the peer pressure of an idolatrous society.
3.  Remember what you have received and heard (from God):  every sermon, every visitation of the Holy Spirit, miracle wrought by God to you etc..Consider your ways: Remember the fervent feeling you had when you felt the presence of the Holy Spirit and consider where you stand with God now. Then, make those adjustments you need to make in prayer and rededication to keep yourself in right standing with HIM.
4.  Hold fast: Don’t let go of God’s unchanging hand!
5.  Repent: Turn from your slothfulness and be faithful in your work for the Lord
Warning: If you refuse to take heed and continue to grieve the Holy Spirit by your complacency....

I’ll come as a “thief” in the night:
Jesus threatened to come and judge them at a time they won’t expect and that judgment will be severe.  God gives us all plenty warnings and enough time to humble ourselves and pray…seek His face and turn from our wicked ways. But when sinners refuse to heed to his warning, and still walk in the way of evil, God comes suddenly, and cuts them down. Every man who is warned of the evil of his course, and who refuses or neglects to repent, has reason to believe that God will come suddenly in his wrath, and call him to his judgment day.
D.   Jesus’ Promise:                      “If You Overcome”                (vs. 5)
1.  They shall be clothed in white raiment.
Whoever overcomes sin and the temptations of this world, shall be admitted to this glorious reward. The promise is made not only to those in Sardis who should be victorious, but to all in every age and every land. The hope is our appearing with Our Redeemer in his kingdom, clad in robes expressive of holiness and joy.
2.  I won’t blot out their name out of the “Book of Life.”
Jesus Christ will not blot the names of his chosen and faithful ones out of this book of life. Just because a person’s name may be on a “Institution” Church’s roll, submitted to baptism, as having made a profession of faith (as having a name to live), but over the course of time,  that name may come to be blotted out of the church roll, when it appears that it was but a name, a name to live, without spiritual life; no stewardship that gives evidence of a real change, such often lose the very name before they die, they are left of God to blot out their own names by their “gross” and “open wickedness”….that is they never changed!.
Note: This does not teach against the Bible doctrine of “once saved…always saved!”
This exposes the fact that “verbal profession” is not enough. There must be “concrete evidence “of a change in their heart and must be followed up with a “sincere change” in their lives. At some point as the person spends more time with Christ, prayer, fellowship with other believers, and in study of the Word of God, you will began to see “concrete evidence” of “spiritual growth” and evidence that the Holy Spirit is guiding them. You will physically see that they are a new creation in Jesus Christ: that “Old things have passed away and all things are becoming new. They show evidence they have embraced the Christian faith and is allowing the Holy Spirit to live through them and bring forth the works of God planted in them. We overcome the sin life by faith and living by the Word of God. Those that overcome names shall never be blotted out. Christ will produce this book of life, and confess the names of the faithful who stand there, before God, and all the angels; he will do this as their Judge, when the books shall be opened; he will do this as their captain and head, leading them with him triumphantly to heaven, presenting them to the Father:
3.     Jesus will confess their name before God the Father:
Jesus will tell God the Father that we belong to HIM! Come you that are blessed of My Father!
He that have an ear….Let him hear what the Spirit says to the Church (vs. 6)

II.       The Message to the Church of Philadelphia      “The Faithful Church of                 Brotherly Love”          (Verses 7-13)

Church History:
The Church in Philadelphia shows no interminglings of evil, but is addressed as if embracing only a small exceptional company of acknowledged ones in the midst of a larger body who are no longer recognized as strictly a part of Christ's Church. They are spoken of as having kept His word, and not denied His name: as though many had failed in these particulars, and so lost their place in the acknowledged Christian body. These Philadelphians were but a little flock, poor in worldly goods, and of small account in the eyes of human beings. They had but little strength, and were greatly oppressed by heretical teachers and pretenders; but they held fast to the word of Christ, in patient waiting for His promise. The Philadelphian church was the spiritual revival of the Church of Sardis before they lost their spiritual ferver.  The Philadelphia period lasted about 150 years from 1750 A.D. to 1900 A.D.

A.   Greetings from Jesus: “HE that is Holy…HE that is true…HE that has the “key” of David… HE that opens and no man shuts… and shuts and no man opens...(vs. 7)
Jesus is the Holy One of Israel. The True and Living God…The Authority over the House of David…He opens and no man can shut it or shuts and no man can open it.
B.   Jesus Comendation:  “I Know your Works”                                  (vs. 8)
1.   I have set before you an “open” door: that is, Jesus has given them His gracious gift of evangelism to       them for spiritual usefulness and no man can prevent them from spreading the Gospel, no matter how       much opposition.
2.   You have a little strength: yet, you haven’t denied My name, and you have kept my word:                       Philadelphia possessed very little political authority or influence; yet they t kept God’s word- kept           the true doctrine; and did not denied my name, by taking shelter in paganism when Christianity was         persecuted. The little strength may refer either to the smallness of the numbers, or to the littleness of         their grace.
C.   Jesus’ Challenges and Warnings                                                    (vs. 11)
1.  I’m coming quickly! “Hold fast to what you have, that no man take your crown”
2. These events will come take place shortly. I’m coming with rewards and consolations for all of the            faithful followers.
D.   Jesus’ Promises      '7 Promises to those who overcome'     (vs. 9-10 & 12)
1.     I will make them (those who oppose you) a synagogue of Satan which say they are Jews and are           not but do lie.
2.     I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.
3.     I will keep you from the hour of temptation, which will come upon the all the world, to try them that         dwell upon the earth.
4.     I will make you a pillar in the temple of God and you shall go out no more
5.     I will write the name of God (Jehovah)
6.      I will write the name of the City of God (New Jerusalem)
7.     I will write my (Jesus) new name upon those who overcome.

Note: The Christian church will stand forever. Christianity will win despite everything the Christian church has had to endure from religious and world persecution. The “seal” of the Holy Spirit on every born again believer is proof positive that we will be redeemed and live in eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He that have an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.  (vs. 13)

III.           The Message to The Church of Laodecia           (Verses 14-22)
Church History:
Paul never visited Laodicea, but hearing, most probably, from Epaphras of the false doctrines spread in that city, he wrote to the Colossians desiring that his epistle to that church should also be read in Laodicea. The message of the Holy Spirit (Revelation 3:14-22) to the church of Laodicea was an awful warning. The condition of the Laodicean church describes the same spiritual lukewarm spirit and worldliness that will prevail in the professing Church of Christ at the end of the age as a whole. (This current age) With many churches (mega and some mid-level) becoming more financially well off, obtaining both government funding and soliciting private partnership funding for mission work both from the membership the public sector for “world harvesting” missions, and then becoming “socially and politically” cultured, and “religiously” ritualistic,  as well as changing from an “evangelistic platform” to a more “economic prosperity” and “social motivation” message through “networking”, the spirit that drives this church will cause many who grace the church to become so “self-satisfied” and “worldly” to the point of “omitting” Jesus Christ from their worship services completely. (Having need of nothing)
Verse 20 depicts Jesus on the outside of the Laodecean church, standing on the outside at the door knocking for admission inside their church worship.  (Revelation 3:20). No longer is He admitted by the corporate body, even though they sing, pray and praise Him with their lips, but their hearts being far from Him. So He stands outside, extending an invitation to individuals. The awful spiritual condition of the “Modern church” is so utterly abhorrent to God,  He calls forth one of the boldest warnings used in the NewTestament: "So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth" This Church Period started around 1900 A.D. and is ongoing and sadly represents the last church period before the “rapture” of the true church from the earth and the 7-year Great Tribulation Period.

A.   Greetings from Jesus:       The “AMEN” …The FAITHFUL and TRUE WITNESS…The BEGINNING of the Creation of God  (vs. 14)
This means, Jesus is both Faithful and True Witness, He is the head and governor of all creatures; the King of all creation and has preeminence over everything made that was made (Psalms 24:1) because He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient and is completely Immutable (never changing in His “God character” in any sense of the word, ie.  Holiness, Righteousness, Sovereignty etc..)  By all of his titles, here, Jesus prepares them for the humiliating and awful truths which he was about to declare, and the authority on which these declaration are founded.

B.   Jesus’ Commendation:                “I know Your Works”           (vs. 15)
1.     You are neither “cold” or “hot”
While there is no pretense of religion, it was obvious that their religion in the sight of Christ was “lifeless” and “dead.” There was a profession of religion, but no warm-hearted piety; in which there was not, on the one hand, open and honest opposition to him, and, on the other, such warm-hearted and honest love as he had a right to look for among his professed friends; in which there was a profession of that religion which ought to warm the heart with love, and fill the soul with zeal in the cause of the Redeemer; but where the only result, in fact, was deadness and indifference to him and his cause.
2.     I wish you were “cold” or “hot”
Jesus desired that they were either way because being lukewarm or indifference in religion is the worst temperament to have in the world. If religion is a real thing, it is the most excellent thing, and therefore we should be in good earnest in it; if it is not a real thing, it is the vilest imposture, and we should be earnest against it. If religion is worth anything, it is worth every thing; any indifference in relationship to the cause of Christ is inexcusable:

3.     Your reasoning:   “How You see yourself”                            (vs.17)
“I am rich.(self sufficient in all things: spiritual, creative in worship, self praising and  glorifying your works and deeds  I am increased with goods (prosperous and  much worldly wealth and political influence) and I have need of nothing ( I have reached “mega-church and mega minister status”)   This church and its members believed themselves to be in a safe state, perfectly sure of final salvation, because, thou hast begun well, and laid the right foundation. It was this most deceitful conviction that cut the nerves of their spiritual diligence; they rested in what they had already received, and seemed to think that once in grace must be still in grace. They thought that they had already reached the goal God had set for them. They lived in the past and bragged on their current status based of their past performances.

4.     How I see you:  wretched, poor, blind, and  naked
Jesus saw them as being in slavery in the most deplorable state to be pitied by men. As far as being rich and prosperous as they claimed, Jesus saw them as being spiritually bankrupt, having no spiritual riches at all, possessing no holiness in their heart, “dark” in their understanding of their own status.  They stood in the sight of God as being devoid of the image of God, not clothed with holiness and purity. A more deplorable state in spiritual things can scarcely be imagined than that of this church. In the year 2014, unfortunately, this is the true picture of many churches, and of innumerable individuals. (Truly we are in those last days.)

C.   Jesus’ Challenge and Warning:      "4  things"                  (vs. 18-19)
1.   Buy from ME gold tried in the fire
Come and receive from me, without money and without price, true faith that shall stand in every trial. It can also mean pure and undefiled religion, or that grace or divine influence which produces it, which is more valuable to the soul than the purest gold to the body.
2.     White raiment
Holiness of heart and life.
3.   Anoint your eyes with eyesalve.
Pray for, that ye may receive, the enlightening influences of my Spirit, and the Word of God itself that ye may be convinced of your true state, and see where your help lies.
4.     Be zealous and repent.
Be in earnest, to get your souls saved. They had no zeal.  He now stirs them up to diligence in the use of the means of grace and repentance for their past sins and remissness.
Remember: Those I love I will rebuke and chastise. These challenges are imperatives.

D.   `Jesus’ Promises:          Behold…I stand at the door and knock…If you Overcome…(open the door)….(vs. 20-21)
1.     Jesus will come in and commune with you
If the sinner will seriously consider his spiritual state, and take heed to the appeal of the voice of his Lord. and open the door This must be his own act, receiving power for this purpose from his offended Lord, who will not break open the door; he will make no forcible entry. I will reveal myself to him, heal all his backslidings, pardon all his iniquities, and love him freely. Not only that, Jesus will hold ‘communion with them and feed them the bread of life.
2.    Jesus will grant you a seat at His throne
If you are faithful unto death, you will spend eternity with Jesus Christ and have a seat in the kingdom.
He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (vs.22)
