Revelation Chapter 2 "Apostle John's Letters to The 7 Churches in Asia Minor Part 1:"The First 4 Letters"

Ephesus: "The Loveless Church"
"To the angel of the church of Ephesus write,'These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: "I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place — unless you repent.  But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.  "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God."'

Smyrna: "The Persecuted Church"
"And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write,'These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: "I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.  "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death."'

Pergamos: "The Compromising Church"
"And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write,These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword: "I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth. "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it."'

"Thyatira: "The Corrupt Church"
"And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,'  "These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: "I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.  Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.  And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works. "Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. But hold fast what you have till I come. And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations 'He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels', as I also have received from My Father; and I will give him the morning star. "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'  (NKJV)

Bible Study Outline: Outline on the Book of Revelation Chapter 2

Messages to the 7 Churches in Asia Minor

This Bible Outline will discuss 4 of these 7 Churches from 3 Biblical points of view: Historic Period (how each church possibly represented a certain period in the Church age) Spiritual (as the “spirit’ or behavior of the people can be found in people in the modern church) and as Actual Churches in Biblical Time. Each one of the letters written to the seven churches contained the phrase:  "I know thy works." Each one of them contains either an indictment. Most of them contained a threat, and all of them contained a “promise”:  "To him that overcometh." All of the church letters ended with the phrase:  "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Notice how Jesus addressed himself to each church. The Lord addresses each church in the way that is designed to get their undivided attention and to bring them face to face with their social and spiritual state. Each letter was sent based on geographic proximity.

As a result, Ephesus was the first to receive John’s Apocalyptic letter because it was closer geographically to the Isle of Patmos than the other 6, and the Ephesian church was the church that John had a direct connection to.

The Message to the Church of Ephesus      “Backslidden Church”     (Verse 1-7)

The name “Ephesus” means to “relax” or to” let go”. The church at the time of writing of this letter had become backslidden. The Apostle Paul had warned them in Acts 20:29-30 as soon as he would depart from them, “grievous wolves”  (false preachers and teachers) would infiltrate the congregation and members (false teachers, ministers and leaders) within the flock would split the church based on doctrinal issues  and form a church group within the ranks and draw weak members away from the church.

A.     Greetings from Jesus: “He who holds the 7 stars (Pastors) in His right hand and walks in the middle of the 7 golden candlesticks. (Church at large) (vs. 1)

Note:   Jesus is the One who preserves, guides, uphold the ministers of the 7 churches and all ministers who are genuine and stay true to their calling and faith in Jesus Christ. He is the supreme Bishop and Head, not only of those churches, but of all the churches congregations of his people throughout the world.

B.     Jesus’ Commendations to Ephesus:    “I know your works”                      (vs. 2-3)

He commends them for their patience, and for their opposition to those who are evil.

He also commends them for their zeal (enthusiasm) and fidelity in doing background checks on the character of some men who claimed to be apostles, but who were, found to be impostors and false teachers. (see verse 6)

JESUS SAID: “But this you have, that you hate the deeds (false teachings and sowing seeds of discord) of the Nicolaitanes who also I hate.

He commended them for their perseverance in bearing up under trial, and not fainting in his cause, and for their opposition to the Nicolaitanes, whom, he says, he hates, (
Revelation) 2:2-3,.  See the historic note on them. (vs. 6)

Historic Note: The Ephesian church fought against these Nicolaitanes The name Nicolaitanes is taken from 2 words: “ Nikko” which meant: to overthrow or conquer and “Laos” which meant: “the people or Laity”) These church leaders rose up from within the ranks were a faction in the church that tried and eventually did establish a “priestly order" among the leadership of the church’s infrastructure.

This new priestly order was based on the Old Testament order of the Priest, Levites, and the Common people. They wanted to and did form a “separation” between the Clergy from the Laity by having a “Holy Order of Men” (clergy) to rule over the congregants, (this is that thing that God hates) which was not the plan Jesus set in the New Testament. They stop calling the ministers “pastors” and started calling them "Bishops", "Clergy", "Archbishops", "Cardinals" and "Popes". The “type” of character found in the Ephesus Church lasted historically about 100 years from 70A.D. to 170 A.D., however aside from the Roman Catholic Church, Protestant churches are beginning to rename their ministry titles as well.

C.     Jesus’ Indictment against Ephesus:     “You left your first love”         (vs. 4)

This church failed to maintain the fervent strong love and affection for the Lord as well as for the “
sacred things” (sound and correct doctrinal truths) they had when they were first brought to the knowledge of a Holy God and Jesus Christ as Savior. They abandoned truths like justification by faith in Jesus Christ.

D.   Jesus’ Challenge (Threat and warning)             “4 Things”          (vs. 5)

Remember: where you fell from. Remember the state of God’s grace you once stood in. The songwriter put I this way: Tell me how did you feel when you came out of the wilderness, leaning on the Lord!

Remember the state of grace in which you once stood. Remember the happiness, love, and joy you felt when Christ forgave you of all your sins.

Think about the zeal you had for God's glory and concern you showed for the salvation of mankind; your willingness, the spirit of obedient, your cheerful practice of self-denial, your fervency in private prayer.

Remember how you detached yourself from the ways of the world, by being heavenly-mindedness.

2.
Repent: Humble yourself before the throne of Almighty God in repentance of your backslidden state.

3.
Resume: Do the “first” works.  Go back and continue in your “former” zeal and diligence. Watch, fast, pray, reprove sin. Carefully obey all the ordinances of God and walk them out as pleasing in his sight, and don’t rest not till you have recovered all your lost ground, and got back the evidence of your acceptance with your Savior and Lord.

4.
Judgment: If you fail to do so, I will come quickly and remove your candlestick. This meant that God would remove his very presence, remove the pastor, take away His Word and vision for that church creating a famine for “sacred things”, which in essence  meant that that church congregation is no more

E.     Jesus’ Promise                   If you Overcome….                                                (verse. 7)

“He that hath an ear” HEAR! Let every intelligent person, and every Christian man, LISTEN CAREFULLY to what the Holy Spirit, says to the churches

To him that overcomes] To those who continues steadfast in the faith, and remain uncorrupt or repents and return from the corruption in his life; the one who faithfully confesses Jesus, and neither embraces false doctrines nor is led away by the error of the wicked; will I give to eat of the tree of life.

The Message to The Church of Smyrna  “Persecuted”       (verses 8-11)

The name “Smyrna” meant myrrh, or bitterness. The Smyrna church experienced the “chastisement” of what happened in the Ephesians church era when the church (spiritually)” left its first love”. God used this church’s persecution experience to cause His church to return to Him in true repentance.

A.     Greetings From Jesus: “The First and the Last, Who was dead, and came to life”: (vs.8)

Meaning: From He who is eternal; from whom all things come, and to whom all things must return. Which was dead, (Jesus has died) for the redemption of the world; and is alive to die no more forever. He is now his glorified humanity being enthroned at the Father's right hand.(sitting as our Great High Priest) (vs. 8)

B.     Jesus’ Commendation : “I Know your works”:

I know all you have done and all the suffering and persecution you have been through. You have been stripped of your possessions for defending your faith in Christ. (But you are rich) That is, rich in faith and you are heirs and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.

I am aware of the blasphemy those who say that they are Jews. There were persons there who professed Judaism, and had a synagogue in the place, and professed to worship the true God; but they had no genuine religion, and they served the Devil rather than God. They applied a sacred name to an unholy thing: and this is one meaning of the word blasphemy in this book. (vs.9) The other meaning to the word blasphemy is to give the devil credit to anything that only God can do.

C.     Jesus’ Challenge:  “Fear none of those things”                               (vs.10)

Don’t fear suffering: Some of you will be thrown into prison by Satan, to be tried, and shall have tribulation 10 days: the 10 days meant either 10 years or 10 persecution periods.

Be faithful unto death: (Reward)  You will receive a “Crown of Life”

That is, be firm.(steadfast) Hold fast in the faith,(unmovable) confess Christ to the last, (always abounding in the work of the Lord) and at all hazards,(endure all afflictions) and thou shalt have a crown of life-thou shalt be crowned with life, have an eternal happy existence, though thou suffer a temporal death. Job 3:17: “the wicked shall cease from troubling and the weary shall be at rest.”

History Note:The Church experienced 10 Great Persecution Periods that lasted during this Church Era a total of 142 years. The first persecution came by Nero the Roman Emperor in 64 A.D. The last persecution period was under Diocletian and led to the war between Constantine in 312 A. D. . 7 of the 10 Great Persecution periods happened during the “Smyrna Church era, and Diocletian, the last Emperor to persecute this church actually attacked the Church of Smyrna 10 different times. The Smyrna Church Period lasted from 170 A.D. to 312 A.D. .

D.     Jesus’ Promise:            If you Overcome…                                     (verse 11)

He that has an ear:  If you hear to endure to the end, as an “Overcomer”, you will not be hurt of the second death. That is you will live forever in the presence of the Lord and unlike your tormentors, not be thrown in hell and experience eternal separation from the presence of almighty God and Jesus Christ.

The Message to the Church of Pergamos:“ The Compromising Church”(verse 12-17)

The word
Pergamos meant: “Marriage” This actual church was guilty of forming an alliance (Marriage) of Christianity with the Paganism. Pergamos is spoken in this letter as “Satan’s seat.”

Between Attalus III Priest-King of the Chaldean Hierarchy who had fled to Pergamos from the Persians conquerors and through Satan made Pergamos his capital and through Constantine Emperor of Rome, they forged an alliance, and cause a unification of church and state, opening the floodgates for all kinds of worldly people to come in and become a integral part of the church. For Constantine, it was more of a political move than a religious one. This union caused 2 false doctrines: The Doctrine of Balaam and the Doctrine of the Nicolaitanes.

A.   Greeting From Jesus: “He who has the sharp two-edged sword” (vs. 12)

The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, cuts every way; it convinces of sin, righteousness, and judgment; pierces between the joints and the marrow, divides between the soul and spirit, dissects the whole mind, and exhibits a regular anatomy of the soul. It not only reproves and exposes sin, but it slays the ungodly, pointing out and determining the punishment they shall endure. Jesus has the sword with the two edges, because he is the Savior of sinners, and the Judge of quick and dead.

B.   Jesus’ Commendation: I know your works!                                  (vs.13)

I know every temptation you face, where you live and how you act. I even know where Satan’s seat of Influence among the congregation is. I know those who profess my name, (profess to be followers of Christ and are truly His) and haven’t denied the faith. I know of the martyrdom of Antipas (my faithful martyr) and how Satan has carried out his wrath against the church in Pergamos.

C.   Jesus’  Indictment:       Toleration of 2 False Doctrines       (vs. 14-15)

The Doctrine of Balaam:

a.     The eating of things sacrificed to idols .by attending heathen feast that were forbidden.

b.    Toleration of the committing of fornication among the church members.

The Doctrine of the Nicolaitanes which was basically the same heathen practices with some variations but just as idolatrous.

D.   Jesus’ Challenge:  Repent or else….I’ll come quickly and…         (vs. 16)
I will fight against them: The Nicolaitanes and the church for tolerating their false teaching and practices.

I’ll fight with the sword of MY mouth:
That is, Jesus would give the order, and they would be cut as if by a sword. Precisely in what way it would be done he does not say; but it might be by persecution, or by heavy judgments. To see the force of this, we are to remember the power which Christ has to punish the wicked by a word of his mouth. By a word in the last day he will turn all the wicked into hell.(Gehenna)- the Lake Of Fire)

A.   Jesus’ Promise:      “If you Overcome”                        (vs.17)
I
f you listen to the Holy Spirit and take heed to what He says to you…

I will give you “hidden manna”:  The true spiritual food; the food that nourishes the soul. The idea is, that the souls of those who "overcame," or who gained the victory in their conflict with sin, and in the persecutions and trials of the world, would be permitted to partake of that spiritual food which is laid up for the people of God, and by which they will be nourished forever.

I will give you a white stone: It is supposed that by the white stone is meant pardon or acquittal, and on that stone a new name that no one will know but the one who receives the stone. According to Matthew Henry Commentary, this white stone is absolution from the guilt of sin, eluding to the ancient custom of giving a white stone to those acquitted on trial and a black stone to those condemned. The “new name” is the name of “adoption”: adopted persons took the name of the family into which they were adopted. Whatever the name is, it will let the person know that they are in the family of God and nobody can change that. None can read the evidence of a man's adoption but himself; he cannot always read it, but if he persevere, he shall have both the evidence of  being a member of God’s family and the inheritance of being both an heir and joint heir with Jesus Christ.

History Note: During this time in history, the church because of “politics and perks” entered into a union with the state (Rome) in religious matters and was guilty of “Spiritual Fornication” or what’s called “Balaamism”.

Constantine, Emperor of Rome promised to give the Bishops of the Church numerous “imposing’ buildings called “Basilicas to convert into churches and if the Bishops accepted his offer, the state would finance the furnishing and decorating of these converted church buildings. The state also bought the “clergy” vestments (robes and accessories) and provided the lofty thrones that the Bishops would sit upon in worship in the aspe of the Bascillica, with a marble star that was adorned with gems and gold on the lower level in front of him.

After all these inducement were in place, the worship services took on a more sensuous form and many “pagan rituals” became intertwined within the actual church worship. Great Pagan festivals were also adopted to appease the pagan members of the church and to attract more pagans to the church. Doctrinal speaking, the church then changed its position from a “Pre-Millennial” view of the second coming of Jesus Christ to a “Post-Millennial" view, and based it on their new financial position and their union with the state.

They reasoned that since the Church had become rich and had enormous political power, the union between Constantine , Emperor of Rome (the State) and the Bishops in rule in the Church hierarchy could come up with a successful strategy that will usher in the Millennium without the return of Jesus Christ. This is why, even to this day some people believe that the world will get better and man has the ability to usher in a New World Order, devoid of Jesus and believe that man, acting as his “own god” can make this world a better place.

To justify a scriptural justification to their false position, they contend that the Church has replaced Israel and is the “New Israel.” They also contend that God has cast Israel off forever and all prophecies in the Bible that pertain to Israel future glory are now for the Church and not Israel. The “Pergamos” Church Period lasted 294 years from 312 A.D. to 606 A.D. at the point when Pope Boniface III was crowned “Universal Bishop".

The message to The Church of Thyatira “The Corrupt Church”          (Verses 18-29)

Thyatira - in Lydia, south of Pergamos. Lydia, the purple seller of this city, converted at Philippi, a Macedonian city (with which Thyatira, as being a Macedonian colony, had naturally much contact), was probably the instrument of first carrying the Gospel to her native town. John follows the geographical order; for Thyatira lay a little to the left of the road from Pergamos to Sardis. In Thyatira, the smallest of these seven cities, the church had allowed a false prophetess to instruct her, leading members into practices of immorality and idolatry. For this reason the Christ who addresses her is described as one coming to execute judgment. To the overcomers of this city Christ promises privileges similar to those he himself exercises.

A.  Greeting from Jesus: “The Son of God: Eyes like a flame of fire”... Feet like fine Brass”      (vs. 18)

Meaning: The glance of his eye all is light, and nothing can be concealed from his view. Nothing would be better suited to inspire awe then, as nothing should be now, than such a reference to the Son of God as being able to penetrate the secret recesses of the heart. And his feet are like fine brass is indicative of HIS majesty and glory as he walked in the midst of the churches.

B.              Jesus’ Commendation: “I know your works”!                                            (vs.19)
He knew all they had done, good and bad. Jesus addressed these following things:

Your charity (love)   Your  love to God, and love towards man.

Your Service ("ministry") Included
is all the service which the church had rendered in the cause of religion; all which was the proper fruit of love, or which would be a carrying out of the principles of love to God and man.

Your faith: That is, your trust in Christ for salvation, and in how your works demonstrated that faith in the ministry service you performed.

Your patience: You showed patience and endurance of the sorrows of life of all God brought upon them in any way, to test the reality of their religion.

Your works: That is, the virtue of all the works you have done as a church. Your works had been more numerous and praiseworthy even than they had formerly been.

Your last work: (more than the first work): Compared to their first works, they had been acting more and more in accordance with the nature and claims of the Christian profession. They got better and more mature in the faith.

C.              Jesus’ Indictment:     “You have become corrupted”                   (vs. 20)

1. You allowed  “that woman Jezebel” “who called herself” a prophetess top teach and seduce my servants to commit fornication and to eat things offered to idols.

This Jezebel in spirit, whether it was her actual name of not epitomized the Jezebel, the wife of a weak wicked king Ahab in her character and behavior and being a woman of power and vast influence set herself up as teacher in the church, teaching false doctrines and was tolerated by the church to the point that many were taught doctrinally and seduced by her to pract
ice fornication, (spiritual and literal) and to attend heathen festivals and eat food that was known to be offered to idols.

2.  I gave her a chance to repent but she wouldn’t do it. (vs. 21)

D.              Jesus’ Challenge:  “Repent” or…..                                      (vs. 22-23)

I will cast her and those who commit adultery with her into a ”bed of great tribulation”.

A “bed” of pain. Those who are seduced by her doctrines into this sin; either they who commit it with her literally, or who are led into the same kind of life. Great suffering will be anything from disease in our  body or tortures of the soul. Sooner or later, sorrow always comes upon the licentious; and God has evinced by some of his severest judgments, in forms of frightful disease, his displeasure at the violation of the laws of purity. There is no sin that produces a mere withering and desolating effect upon the soul than fornication.

2.   I will kill her children: all the churches will know I am HE which search the reins and hearts; I will give unto you according to your works.

The sins of the parents will have a deadly and adverse effect on the future of their children.  Literally speaking, the children shall be visited with calamity for the sins of parents, and with what often occurs in fact, that they do thus suffer.

For it is not an uncommon thing that whole families are made desolate (destroyed) on account of the sin and folly of the parent
. The design of this judgment will be so apparent that it will convince all that Jesus knows what is in the hearts of people, even the secret acts of wickedness that are concealed from human view.

Jesus then gives a reminder that He is the ONE who knows what’s in the hearts and minds of everybody and HE will give in judgment everything we deserve from Him according to our works. We will reap what we sow and what we sow will affect some or all of what our children reap, down to the 3rd and 4th generation.

3.   A Promise to the Steadfast: (The Rest of Thyatira)                                (vs.24)

Who have not embraced THIS DOCTRINE: and does not know the “depths of Satan”:

" I will put no more burden upon you".

That is, Jesus would bring upon them no other and no weightier burden, than must arise from his purpose to inflict appropriate vengeance on the guilty themselves.

The trouble which would grow out of that would be a sufficient expression of his displeasure. This is, in fact, often now all that is necessary as a punishment on a church for harboring the advocates of error and of sin. The church has trouble enough ultimately in getting rid of them; and the injury which such persons do to its piety, peace, and reputation, and the disorders of which they are the cause, constitute a sufficient punishment for having tolerated them in its bosom. Often the most severe punishment that God can bring upon people is to "lay upon them no other burden" than to leave them to the inevitable consequences of their own folly, or to the trouble and vexation incident to the effort to free themselves from what they had for a long time tolerated or practiced.

E.   Jesus’ Promise: “If you Overcome” by hearing what the Holy Spirit says to the Church”  and Keep  MY word to the End…(vs. 26)

I will give you  power over the nations. Every witness of Christ has power to confute and confound all the false doctrines and maxims of the nations of the world, for Christianity shall at last rule over all; the kingdom of Christ will come, and the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our God and of his Christ. They would partake of the final triumph anal glory of the Savior, and be associated with him. It doesn’t say they would have exclusive power over the nations, or that they would hold offices of trust under him during a personal reign on the earth; but the meaning is, that they would be associated with him in his future glory.

Jesus shall rule over them with a “rod of iron” That is, Jesus will rule with power that is firm and invincible. It denotes a government of strength, or one that cannot be successfully opposed; one in which the subjects are effectually subdued. There would be no power to oppose His rule; the enemies of his government would be destroyed.

Jesus will give them “The Morning Star” He shall have the brightest and most glorious empire, next to that of Christ himself. And it is certain that the Roman Empire under Constantine the Great was the brightest emblem of the latter day glory which has ever yet been exhibited to the world. It is well known that sun, moon, and stars are emblems, in prophetic language, of empires, kingdoms, and states. And as the morning star is that which immediately precedes the rising of the sun. It probably here intends an empire which should usher in the universal sway of the kingdom of Christ.

He that have an ear…Let him hear what the Spirit says to the church!

History Note: The church of Thyatira represents the "Papal church." The "Papal" church introduced "images" and "pictures" into the churches and caused the people of that time to bow down to these graven images, and act that is "forbidden" in the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20: 4) There is no question that whether this "Jezebel" was a real person, it is obvious that she was represents  a "Religious System". The only religious system that fits her character and religious practices is the "Papal Church".

This church made the claim that it's teachings  is superior to the Word Of God and since the church is always represented in the female venacular, the church became a False Prophetess. When you research and study the formation of this church system from its inception in 606 A.D. to the time of the Reformation in A.D. 1520, they introduced what is called "The sacrifice of the Mass" and other Pagan rites taken from the "Pergamos" Church Period, all of which has a "sway of "Jezebelism." The time period between 606 and 1520 A.D. was a time of "Jezebelistic Persecution", which was vividly illustrated in the times of the "Crusades", and the rise of what was called "The Inquisition."

It was the "Inquisition" of this church that set up the need for the "Reformation Period" that followed in the Sardis Church Period, spearheaded by Martin Luther around 1500 A.D. when in 1517 A.D., Luther wrote and nailed his 95 "Thesis" in protest of the "Papal Church, its politics and religious practices.

Revelation 1:1-20:Jesus: The "Alpha" and "Omega"...The "Beginning" and The "End"
Introduction and Benediction
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants — things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

Greeting the Seven Churches
John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning
and the End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

Vision of the Son of Man
I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying,  "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last," and, "What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."  Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this. The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches. (NKJV)

Biblical Outline on the Book of Revelation Chapter One

The Book of Revelation reveals all of the great events that will bring history as we know it to a close. Included in those things that will be revealed in the future is the “revelation” of Jesus Christ, that is, in His physical return to the earth. Every eye shall see Him; both Jews and Gentiles (other races) who rejected Him as their Messiah will come face to face with the fact that Jesus was the promised seed prophesied in Genesis 3:15, and revealed in the 4 Gospels as the fulfillment of Isaiah 7:14, that is, the "conceived Son" born of a virgin and given the name “Emanuel”  which when interpreted meant "God with us".

The “purpose of this book is to provide the setting for the “revealing” of Jesus Christ as it pertains to the time of Great Tribulation, His Second Coming (the Revelation Stage) and the Millennial kingdom. (Chapters 4 through 19)

These 3 prophetic events coincide with the same events that were prophesied to incur in Daniel’s 70th week prophecy. (Daniel 9:24-27)  In actuality, we are currently living in the present time, between the “69th and 70th weeks” of Daniel’s 70 week prophecy. Since the 69th week of this prophecy concluded, God, in the “Time of the Gentiles” paused the prophetic clock; temporarily stopping the fulfillment of “end time judgments” contained in the 62nd verse thru the 67th verse.”

During this pause, (this time of grace) God unveiled a “great mystery” that had been hidden. The unveiling of the Church was the mystery event none of the prophets of old foretold. The Old Testament prophets saw all future events from a “straight line” perspective and believed that every prophetic event would be fulfilled in “Messiah’s” (Jesus Christ’s) first coming. (Isaiah 61: 1-2) The “formation” of the Church, and the Coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost were 2 events they didn’t see coming . Neither did they see in the time suspension needed in order that both the “Dispensation of Grace” (The Church Age) and the formation of the Church could come about.

The formation of the Church sits between Jesus first coming and God’s judgment of the nations. God during this “time out” is gathering out from among the Jews and Gentiles a people for His name. (US) Any Jew who accepts Jesus Christ during this dispensation is part of the body of Christ (church) and is a saved Jew individually and not part of the Jews nationally.(as a nation) In contrast to His first coming when He was humiliated and ridiculed by the His chosen people, Romans and the Sanhedrin and others, Jesus in the Book of Revelation is seen…..

A.    In relationship to “time” as He “which was” and “which is to come”.  (Chapter 1:4)

B.     As He related to the Church. (Chapters 1:9 to 3:22)

C.   As He relates to the Great Tribulation. (Chapters 4:1 to 19:21)

D.    As he returns the second time and sets up and rule in the Millennial Kingdom for 1,000 years. (Chapter 20:1-10)

E.    And in reference to the eternal state of life (the Ages of Ages) (Chapters 20:11 to 22:21)

In the Book of Revelation, Jesus is presented as…

A.   Ruler of the kings of the earth. (Chapter 1:5)

B.    Both the “Bridegroom” and “Head” of the Church. (Chapters 2:1to 3:22 and Chapter 19:7-9)

C.   The “Lion” of the tribe of Judah. ( Chapter 5:5)

D.   The Lamb that was slain. (Chapter 5:6 vs. 12 etc…)

E.    The High Priest. (Chapter 8:3-6)

F.    The King and Judge. (Chapters 19:11 to 20:15)

There are 3 major divisions in the Book of  Revelation: The Apostle John wrote…

A.   Concerning past history (things past) those things which thou hast seen “The Patmos Vision” (Chapter 1:1-20)

B.    Concerning present history (things that are) the existing churches (Chapters 2:1 to 3:22)

C.   Concerning history in the future (those things that shall be hereafter) after the church Age ends (Chapters 4:1 to 22:5)

Notes: The “future events” begin at Chapter 4 and is characterized by a series of “prophetic 7’s”:

A.   7 seals (Chapters 4:1to 8:1)

B.     7 trumpets (judgments) (Chapter 8:2 to 11:19)

C.   7 bowls or vials (judgments) (Chapters 15:1 to 16:21)

D.   7 dooms (Chapters 17:1 to 20:15)

E.    7 “new” things (Chapters 21:1to 22:21)

There are 5 important passages embedded in this Book:

A.   Chapter 7:1-17: the Jewish Remnant and the “Tribulation Saints”

B.    Chapters 10:11- to 11:14: The Angel, the “Little” book and the 2 “Witnesses”

C.   Chapter 14:1-13: The Lamb, the “Remnant” and the “Proclamation of the “Everlasting gospel”.

D.   Chapter 16:13-16: Gathering the Kings of the earth-preparing for Armageddon

E.    Chapter 19:1-6: The 4 “Hallelujahs” from Heaven

_________________________________________________________________________________________

I.      Introduction:      "The "Revelation" (Messages) of the "Ascended Lord"    (Apocalypse)        (Verses 1-3)
Note: Apocalypse means: “ the "disclosure" of that which was previously hidden or unknown”.

A.   The Revelation is of Jehovah God given to Jesus, and concerns Jesus as King of Kings and Judge as God gave to Jesus…(Based on John 5:19-20; 7:16; 8:28; 12:49; 14:10;17:7-8; Matthew 11:27; and Mark 13:32) ).Jesus gave to the angel that was instructed to give it to the Apostle John who in term gave that “Revelation” to the Churches concerning events that are to occur in the near future. (nearing the end of the Dispensation of Grace or the “Church” Age.)   (vs.1)

B.    John bore record of the Word of God both in his personal life as he lived during the timed of Jesus’ earthly ministry and was “the beloved disciple John Chapter 1 and was given the record of all the future events upcoming concerning those things that were to occur shortly. (vs. 2)

C.   Jesus declares anyone is blessed if they do the following:           (vs.3)

Blessed is everyone who reads, hear the word of this prophecy and what’s written within them :      “The” time is at hand. (drawing nearer day by day) They must keep, obey, remember, and               prepare themselves for the coming events written to come in the very near future.

II.     John’s Greeting:           “To the 7 Churches”                       (Verses 4-8)

A.   Grace unto you and Peace from HIM (God the Father- YAHWEH) (“Who Was”… “Who Is”…Who        Is to come”!) Taken from “YHWH” (the expression is called a “tetragrammation”) God-                    Yahweh (Jehovah) represents eternity to eternity and time in between and because the higher        and lower regions, heaven, earth, the fullness thereof, and all that dwells and exist within was        perfected by HIM. Jesus said: Grace and Peace:  which meant “Be a partaker of Divine favor”

B.    And from the “7 Spirits” before His throne: This either means 7 angels that are sent into all the         earth to do God’s bidding of the Holy Spirit at the throne of God the Father in full power as             the number 7 means complete!        (vs.4)

C.   And from Jesus Christ- the “Faithful Witness”, the First begotten of the dead, the “Prince” of           the kings of the earth, who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.

1.      Jesus, like Jehovah God cannot lie. Therefore His testimony is completely true and you can            rely and depend on Him in all things.

2.      He’s the first begotten of the dead. Colossians 1:17-20 explains this fully:

a.      Jesus is before all things and He holds all things together.

b.     Jesus is the “Head” of the Church and we are His body.

c.     Jesus is the “firstborn of the dead that He might have supremacy in all things.

d.     God the Father was pleased to have all of HIS fullness dwell in Jesus Christ.

e.      God the Father reconciled everything through Jesus by the shedding of His blood on the                  cross and making peace of all things in the process.

3.     Jesus has pre-eminence and is King of kings over all earthly rulers (absolute soverighty)

4.    Jesus loves us and washed us (purified) from our sins in His blood.(vs.5)

D.   Jesus made us kings and priests before God the Father. (1 Peter 2:9)    (vs.6)

1.     We are a peculiar people, a royal priesthood, a Holy Nation.

2.     To Him we owe “adoration”: Praise, honor and strength to Him

III.    Jesus Christ Return:              Look For His Return”            (Verse 7-8)

A.    Behold (LOOK!) He’s coming through the clouds                    (vs.7)

1.   Every eye shall see Him (Matthew 24:30)(Acts 1:9) The angels said: “in the same manner He left,      Jesus shall return”! (PHYSICALLY VISIBLE)

2.  Those who “pierced” (crucified) Him will see Him and all kindred on the earth will “wail”               (dread) His coming because He’s coming back as the “Righteous Judge” and not as a “Savior”. (     fulfilling Zechariah 12:10)

3.     Even so, AMEN!   So be it or more truthfully, It will be so!

B.    God’s Declaration:          “I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA”      (vs.8)

I AM the Lord, Which Is….Which Was… Which Is to come…

IV.      John’s Testimony:                  “Seeing the Son of Man”       (Verses 9-12)

A.   I’m a Christian, suffering the same persecutions and tribulation just like you, bearing all the           same indignities, for the sake of the Gospel and after the same manner that Jesus suffered.

B.    Exiled on the Isle of Patmos for preaching the Word of God and the Testimony (testifying my          allegiance to Jesus Christ and the belief that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and through the                 preaching of the Word others were converted to Christianity and confessed Jesus Christ.) (vs.9)

C.   I was in the “Spirit” on the Lord’s Day         (vs. 10)

1.     I was under the influence of the Holy Spirit and received the Spirit of Prophecy that day. (The        Lord’s Day- on a Sunday)

2.     I heard a great voice “behind me”- “suddenly and unexpected” this voice sounded like a              trumpet.

D.   The Voice:   “I AM Alpha and Omega”- the First and the Last” (vs.11)
“Write what you see in a book and send it to the 7 Churches in Asia Minor”

E.   I turned around to see who’s voice I heard and saw 7 golden candle sticks (vs. 12-14)      (vs.12)

The 7 golden lamps represent the Church where the “light” (Illumination of God’s love) of God is ever present and constantly shining. Jesus said we are the light of the world ‘candlesticks that are not hidden but openly exposed to give off the light of HIS countenance in the Word of God and our testimony of Jesus Christ.

F. The “Risen” Christ stood in the middle of the golden candlesticks (clothed in HIS priestly garments) In His second role as “Great High Priest” (His current position)(vs. 13)

G. Christ in His splendor (glory) eyes like flame of fire…shone in all directions…representing Jesus in His “omniscience”…head and hair like lamb’s wool         (vs. 14)

H. The “Feet”: like fine brass burned in a furnace and a voice that sounded like many waters. (vs. 15)

The description of His feet represents that the Lord is stable and is and always will exist. brass being considered the most durable of all metallic substances or compounds. The description of His voice is representative of His divine authority. In the Gospel of John, Jesus is shown as God interacting with man in human flesh for the purpose of reconciliation. As Jesus speaks, His deity and connection with the Father comes forth, so much so that the guards who failed to arrest Him on one occasion declared: “Never has a man spoke like this man”! Truly the Glory of the Lord shined upon the whole earth at the sound of His voice.

I.    His “Right” Hand: 7 “stars” represents the Pastors of the churches and the fact that they are             in His right hand means that they are under His protection and under His authority.

His mouth: A sharp 2-edged sword goes forth represents the power of the Word of God that              covers both the saved and the lost, the good and the evil, and cuts sin from left and from the           right.

His countenance: Like the sun shining in His strength. This represents God in all of his                     omnipotence and splendor.       (vs. 16)

V.      John’s Reaction to seeing the Risen Christ                           (Verses 17-18)

1.     John feel at His feet as dead (fainted)   (vs.17)

2.     Jesus’ Response to John:          (vs.18)

a.     He laid His right hand upon John and said: “Fear not: I Am the first and the last.

b.     I am HE that live and was dead and behold (look) I am alive forevermore

c.     I have the keys of hell and of death.

d.     Jesus told John to write the things He’s seen, the things which are and the things that will               occur in the future.

I am Jesus the Savior, who, though the fountain of life, have died for mankind; and being raised from the dead I shall die no more, the great sacrifice being consummated. And have the keys of death and the grave, so that I can destroy the living and raise the dead. The key here signifies the power and authority over life, death, and the grave. This is also a rabbinical form of speech. In the Jerusalem Targum, on Gen: 30:22 , are these words:

"There are four KEYS in the hand of God which he never trusts to angel or seraph.

1. The key of the rain;

2. The key of provision;

3. The key of the grave; and

4. The key of the barren womb."

VI.     Explanation of the 7 Stars                                                        (Verses 19-20)

A.    The 7 Stars are the angels (pastors)

The ministers of the Gospel are signets or seals of Jesus Christ; he uses them to stamp his truth, to accredit it, and give it currency. But as a seal can mark nothing of itself unless applied by a proper hand, so the ministers of Christ can do no good, seal no truth, impress no soul, unless the great owner Christ) condescend to use them.

B.    The 7 candlesticks are the churches:

The churches are represented by these lamps; they hold the oil and the fire, and dispense the light. A lamp is not light in itself, it is only the instrument of dispensing light, and it must receive both oil and fire before it can dispense any; so no church has in itself either grace or glory, it must receive all from Christ its head, else it can dispense neither light nor life.

Conclusion:  We should make very sure that our churches resemble the 5 “wise virgins” who kept a surplus of oil and thus was able to sustain the light, and continued to burn and send forth divine knowledge from the Word of God and our testimony of Jesus Christ. It’s vanity and outright foolish for any church to make the claim to be a church of Jesus Christ and because of lack of oil (Holy Spirit anointing) cannot dispense any light.  If the church fails to enlighten souls, quickened people’s spirits by spreading the Word of God, and bring sinners to repentance, then it’s highly possible that Jesus Christ does not dwell fully there. If Jesus is present in a church and “walks” in it, the church’s  light will shine both clearly and strongly, and sinners will be converted unto Christ and the members of that church will be children of the light, and walk as children of the light and of the day, and there will be no occasion of stumbling in them. The ministers of Christ must make certain that they proclaim nothing as truth, and accredit nothing as truth, but what comes from their Jesus Christ as directed by the Holy Spirit and from the Word of God. Ministers, take heed that we live the same word we have preached to others, lest we should find ourselves ‘cast-a-ways.

Picture
Jude 1-25:"Contend For The Faith"
Greeting to the Called
"Jude, a bond servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you".

Contend for the Faith
"Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ".

Old and New Apostates
"But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire". Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"  But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Apostates Depraved and Doomed
"These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."

Apostates Predicted
"These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage. But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit".

Maintain Your Life with God
"But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh".

Glory to God
"Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,And to present you faultlessBefore the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise,Be glory and majesty,Dominion and power, Both now and forever.Amen".   (NKJV)

Biblical Study Outline: Outline of Jude

I.                  Introduction: Greeting The Saints                                        (Verses 1-2)

A.   Jude- a bondservant (a Christian committed to the spread of the Gospel) and biological brother of Jesus Christ. Yet Called by God and qualified to be an Apostle. Jude focused those he address to his servant hood, not to his earthly blood relation to stem the possibility of internal jealousy among other apostles.

B.   Jude writes to the “called”, “sanctified” by God and “preserved” by Jesus Christ.

Specific members in the faith who were facing pending danger.

Note: The meaning of “preserved” is, they owed their preservation wholly to Christ; and if they were brought to everlasting life, it would be only by him. What the apostle here says of those to whom he wrote, is true of all Christians. They would all fall away and perish if it were not for the grace of God keeping them.

C.   3 “pronounced blessings”: love…peace…mercy! (Multiplied)          (vs.2)

1.     Love in the way you live, in what you experience with and from others and in fully comprehending the Agape love that comes from God.

2.     Peace from the standpoint of overall well being. The word peace really means:" to be a partaker of divine favor". It was another way of saying: Let your eyes look to the hills from whence cometh your help, because all of our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

3.     Mercy because God looked beyond their fault (sinfulness) and seen their need for a Savior to           ave them.

II.               Pastoral Challenge:                “Contend for the faith”                   (Verses 3-4)

A.   Contend for the Faith. Hold on tight to the true principle of the Christian religion..
Defend the faith by holding on to sound doctrine.(God’s precepts, principles and biblical truths that lead to morals and  ethics that are Bible based, Christ centered, Holy Spirit led. The “Common” Salvation, that is, the same salvation by grace in Jesus Christ offered to both Jews and Gentile by accepting what was said in the Gospel.

B.   “Certain Men” – ungodly men and women(false preachers and teachers) 4 indictments: FOUND IN Paul’s prophecy(1Timothy 4 and 2 Timothy 3) and in Peter’s prophecy (Jude v. 17-18)

1.      Crept in the church unawares (by false pretense, having a “form” of godliness but deny the power thereof.[correct Biblical doctrinal teaching about Jesus Christ as Master, Lord, Messiah, and equal in divinity with God])
In these last days, all kind of so-called churches are popping up! Many of them are now being called “worship centers”

2.     They were already condemned publicly(had a well known reputation for denying the true                faith and teaching false doctrines,)

One false belief they taught was based on misinterpreting Romans 5:20, telling the people that because where sin abound, grace abounds more to cover sin, you can go on and live a sinful life because God’s grace already has you covered…Romans 6:1-7 makes Jesus (God the Father’s) position on a godly life perfectly clear- a life that is to be free from sin. The purpose of “sanctification” is to cleanse (save) us from the power of sin.

3.      They openly challenged what Jesus said about himself (Gnostics) –denying the Trinity and Jesus’ “oneness” with Jehovah(YAHWEH) Jesus said “I AM”

4.     They were “ungodly”(”sexually” perverted).

III.           Concerning Apostasy:      “Old and New Apostates”     (Verses 5-11)

A.   “Old Apostates” in past history:

1.     Unbelieving Hebrews: delivered from Egyptian bondage by God, yet refuse to believe in HIM and               follow his commandments. (The Book of Exodus)  (vs.5)

2.     “Fallen” angels:
The angels that left their first estate (Genesis 6) violated their angelic office and pursued and violated the office and dignity of man, who was made a little lower than the angels. (They are currently since their fall in darkness, chained, and awaiting their final judgment from God.)         (vs.6)

Note: Lust and pride will cause to give up your rightful position and pursue a lower moral position that in time will destroy you and those you violate. (1 John 2:15-17)

3.     Sodom and Gomorrah:
Suffered the wrath of God when God rained down fire and brimstone upon them and all the cities in the plains, including Zoar. ((Homosexuality and sexual deviation)

The “raining” down of fire upon them served literally as a real example of the eternal torment a wicked people, cities and society will suffer at the hands of God’s wrath when they will not repent and turn from their wicked ways.) (Genesis 19)(2 Timothy 3) Jude verse 4 expresses what is currently ongoing in society and in many of the modern churches. If you are truly born again, there is no way you can justify living in and remaining in a homosexual, pornographic or any other sexually deviated lifestyle. How can you truly live in sin and really feel the love of Our Savior Jesus Christ?(vs.7)

4.     “Filthy dreamers” (false teachers and all who follow them)
Both the false teachers and those who follow them with their "itching ears" were compared to the fallen angels, the Israelis, and even the Sodomites of historic times. They too were unbelieving, rebellious, disobedient, unholy and impure. They can expect the fall under the punishment of the wrath of God as well.. Jude reveals there were 2 “primary indictment against them: They were guilty of:                                                                                      (vs.8)

a.     Despising dominion: ‎They couldn’t stand to be told what to do by a “righteous” government.  A government who’s laws and ordinances are based upon the sound principles, precepts and truths found in the word of God. Rebels that despise a “federated” Government misread the constitution and oppose the sovereignty and the authority God gave them to fairly govern all the people: One nation…Under God (Jehovah)…Indivisible….with liberty and justice for all! They will come under no restraints; they despise all law, and wish to live as they wished.

b.    Speaking evil of dignities ‎They blaspheme or speak injuriously (insulting and slanderous words) of supreme authority. They treated governors Presidents, judicial, congress and government with contempt and disdain as well as balk at and misrepresent all divine and civil institutions. (2 Peter 2:10-11) Simply put, they had “God” issues and voiced it in all they did. Now, by comparison…

5.    Michael-the Archangel contention with Satan(devil) (vs.9)

When in contention (over the body of Moses) does not bring a “railing accusation” against him (does not get into a back and forth argument) , not that the devil doesn’t deserve a railing accusation, but simply acknowledge him for who he is (the accuser) and said: “The Lord rebuke you Satan”.

Note: Auguring with the devil is counter-productive and a waste of your “valuable” time you could be using giving the Lord more praise and service! The devil likes to argue with you in your mind! That’s where the spiritual/psychological war takes place.  The strongest thing you ever have to say to Satan (unless the Holy Spirit directs you to say more) is: “Satan, the Lord rebuke you! When you say this you are letting the devil know that God has him under restraint and has already censured him.

6.     These (wicked men and women) speak evil against  “things’ they don’t have real knowledge            of:                                                      (vs.10)
Being so “carnal” minded and being at odds with God, they argue against everything, even those things that protect them as well as their personal property.

7.     Jude’s response: Woe unto them!            Reason why?                             (vs. 11)
a.     They have gone the “way of Cain.”
They are haters of their brethren, and they that are such are murderers; and by teaching and living according to their false doctrine they corrupt and destroy the souls of the people.

b.    They are guilty of the “error of Balaam”.

For money, the corrupted the Word of god by watering it down in their false teachings and religious practices.

c.      They are guilty of “the gainsaying of Core”.

They were as rebellious as Dathan, Korah, Abiram and those who associated with them. (Numbers 22) Again, Jude accuses them of murder, covetousness, and outright rebellion against God’s “intrinsic” authority

IV.           The “state” of the Apostates: “Doomed and Depraved”      (Verses 12-15)

A.   They corrupted your “feast of charity.”Feeding themselves without fear. (vs.12)

Back in the day, the richer members of the church made an occasional general feast, at which all the members attended, and the poor and the rich ate together. The fatherless, the widows, and the strangers were invited to these feasts, and their eating together was a proof of their love to each other; whence such entertainments were called love feasts. The love feasts were at first celebrated before the Lord's Supper; in process of time they appear to have been celebrated after it. But they were never considered as the Lord's Supper, nor any substitute for it.  At the “love” feast the false teachers didn’t eat to satisfy their natural appetite, they were gluttonous and stuffed their mouths with food, creating a problem, especially when this feast was celebrated in conjunction with communion. This may explain what the Apostle Paul meant in 1 Corinthians Chapter 11concerning not turning the celebration of the Lord’s Supper into a feast, telling them if they were hungry go home and eat.

Jude describes these wicked false teachers (Nicolatanes and Gnostics this way:

1.     They were considered “clouds without water”. That is they look the part of true teachers but contained no real doctrinal truth to tell.

2.     And “trees whose fruit withered. ”That is to say that they appear to be ministers on the outside, but have no real fruit to offer the people.

3.  And “Twice dead”   First, naturally and practically because they were dead in sin, from which they had been revived by the preaching and grace of the Gospel. Secondly, dead by backsliding or apostasy from the true faith, by which they lost the grace they had before received; and now likely to continue in that death, because plucked up from the roots, their roots of faith and love being no longer fixed in Christ Jesus.                       (vs.12)

4.     Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own waves               (vs.13)

The wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. These are like the sea in a storm, where the swells are like mountains; the breakers lash the shore, and sound like thunder; and the great deep, stirred up from its very bottom, rolls its muddy, putrid sediment, and deposits it upon the beach. Such were those proud and arrogant boasters, those headstrong, unruly, and ferocious men, who swept into their own “cult following” the souls of the simple, and left nothing behind them that was not indicative of their folly, their turbulence, and their impurity.

5.  Wandering stars, which never change their place, While the planets have their revolution round the sun; yet, properly speaking, there is no irregularity in their motions: they are ever continuing on a steady course through all their revolutions on their axis and in circumference around the Sun.. But these false wicked teachers are like uncertain, anomalous meteors, dancing about in the darkness which themselves have formed, and leading simple souls astray, who, now leaving the truth of the gospel and chasing after fables have ceased to walk in the light, and have no other guides but these  Gnostics.

6.  The blackness of darkness: They are just like the other wicked people that are going headlong into that outer darkness (hell and ultimately to the Lake of Fire) where there is wailing, and weeping, and gnashing of teeth.

7.     Enoch’s prophecy concerning them: ”The Lord will come with 10,000 saints To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.                       (vs. 14-15)

V.               Apostates:            “Predicted and Identified”              (Verses 16-19)

1.     Identified: “These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain (take) advantage”.              (vs. 16)

2.     Predicted: “But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the (Holy) Spirit”.           (vs. 17-19)

VI.           Your life with God:                “Maintain it”                (Verses 20-23)

1.     Build yourself up on your most holy faith.                 (vs.20)

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. It means living your life according to faith in God for everything. Habakkuk 2:4 “As it is written: the just shall live by his faith”.(remember Psalms 1)

2.     Praying in the Holy ‘Ghost. (read Romans 8:26)

The power behind sincere constant (prayers without ceasing) is the Holy Spirit who takes our petitions before the throne of God in intercession with “groaning” that we can’t utter .    Romans 8:26-28   (KJV)

3.    Keeping yourself in the love of God                            (vs. 21)

Living in God’s love and letting God’s love guard, guide and protect you. And then look for God’s mercy in the Lord Jesus Christ: now and when he comes back to receive us unto Himself.

4.    And some having compassion:                           (vs.22)

The idea here is, Compassion, though shown to all people in this case was to be manifest toward a certain class of persons in seeking their salvation was tender affection and kindness. They were to approach them in the gentlest manner, appealing to them by such words as "love" would prompt.

5.      Others were to be approached in a different manner, “with boldness” indicated by the phrase, "save with fear."           (vs. 23)

When evangelizing others, some people need to be approached with boldness, yet with compassion, reminding them of the terrible judgments that await those who refuse to accept Jesus Christ and turn from wickedness. warning them to flee from the wrath of God that is shortly to come upon this earth .

VII.        Benediction:        “Now unto HIM”         (Jesus) who is able…    (Verses 24-25)
In the conclusion of this letter, Jude writes this "doxology" and points all believers to the only Wise God (Jehovah). He does so because God (Jesus) is the one who is able to:
1.     Keep you from falling.
2.     Present you before the throne of God faultless with exceeding joy

“To the only wise God our Savior:
Glory...Majesty...Dominion...Power....both NOW and EVER...Amen!

Final Question: Why should we always give glory to God?
According to
Joshua 7:19 and Jeremiah 13:16, the phrase "Give glory to God"  is a Hebrew idiom which means: "Confess your sins." The phrase: "Give God the praise" (John 9:24), is an adjuration to confess your condition holistic (body, soul, spirit). To give God both praise and glory means to "Confess that you are an impostor," and to "Give God the glory by speaking the truth;" Isaiah shows us a great example of true confession in Isaiah 6. Job makes a true confession of himself in Job 38.

Glory is translated "Kabhod" in Hebrew and "Doxa" in Greek from which we get the word "Doxology". Glory as it pertains to Jehovah means God is full of:

(1.) Abundance, wealth, treasure, and thus honor (Psalms 49:12); glory (Genesis 31:1; Matthew 4:8; Revelation 21:24,26).
(2.) Honor, dignity (1 Kings 3:13; Hebrews 2:7; 1 Peter 1:24); of God (Psalms 19:1; 29:1); of the mind or heart (Genesis 49:6; Psalms 7:5; Acts 2:46).

(3.) Splendor, brightness, majesty (Gen 45:13; Isaiah 4:5; Acts 22:11; 2 Corinthians 3:7); of Jehovah (Isaiah 59:19; 60:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:9).

(4.) The glorious moral attributes, the infinite perfections of God (Isaiah 40:5; Acts 7:2; Romans 1:23; 9:23; Ephesians 1:12). Jesus is the "brightness of the Father's glory" (Hebrews 1:3; John 1:14; 2:11).

(5.) The bliss of heaven (Romans 2:7,10; 5:2; 8:18; Hebrews 2:10; 1 Peter 5:1,10).

John 1:1-5 and Revelation 1:5-8       “Fully Identifying with Jesus”

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not".

Revelation 1:5-8:     "Jesus The Faithful Witness"

"And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindred of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty".

Introduction: What Ministers Traditionally Preach and Teach Concerning Jesus:

Many times when we hear someone preaching, teaching, or expounding on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ whoever the person is generally talks about many of those things mostly pertaining to the earthly life  and ministry of Jesus Christ. …From the 4 Gospel writers…we are given 4 different perspectives on His life…His teachings… and the things He did…

The 4 Gospels: Jesus from 4 Writers' Perspective:

From the Gospel of Matthew “perspective”, He comes forth as a Prophet and a Proclaiming King….The Son of David..…The Seed of Abraham… The Promised Messiah…The Perfect Sacrifice….proclaiming that All POWER… in Heaven and earth ….is in HIS hands…

In the Gospel of  Mark, we see Him as the Son Of God… the perfect workman… The miracle worker… working the works of HIM that sent Him while it is day… telling us when night comes…no man can work…

Whenever a message is pulled from the Gospel of Luke, Jesus comes forth as the Son of Man…The Second Adam…the “quintessence” of humanity… the “consummate”  Savior…. showing love and compassion everywhere he goes…showing us that we can cast all of our cares upon Him…for HE cares… about each and every one of us…that He identifies with our suffering and our sorrows…so much so…that HE was wounded for our transgressions… bruised for our iniquities….the chastisement of our peace was upon HIM… and with HIS stripes… we are healed…He shows us…that He identifies with our joys…our pains… our sunshine and our times of rain…HE shows HIMSELF… as the  Seeking Savior.. who came to seek and to save …that which was lost….

And by the time we get to the Gospel of John,we get the vivid picture of Jesus…The Son Of God… The Messiah…bridging the gap….between “sin corrupted” HUMANITY… and a HOLY SOVERIGN MERCIFUL GOD… In the Gospel of John, we come face to face with the Great I AM THAT I AM. We come in contact with the “LIVING WORD” and find out that the WORD  was with God… and the WORD was God…that all things were made by Him and without HIM not one thing was made that was made… How God so loved the world that He sent Jesus…His only begotten Son…

"Why we preach the way we do"

It’s understandable why we as messengers of God do this. We do this, because it is important for the saints of  God to identify with Jesus’ earthly days …to know that our hope,…our salvation and resurrection and regeneration are all wrapped up in what Jesus ultimately did in his earthly days. John 1:14 identifies his earthly days as when the “Word became flesh and dwelled among us”… and we beheld His glory as the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth…And because of HIS “PHI” days, that is, the days of His virgin birth, when HE was born in Bethlehem…wrapped in swaddling clothes… and lying in a manger. We identify with Jesus Christ… It’s because of His 3 year ministry…We identify with his  love…His baptism….His miracles…His teachings…and ultimately…his crucifixion…and ultimately we identify with God the Father….because as Jesus said….no man…. can come to the father…but by ME..but….if you have seen ME…you have seen the Father… and so because of John…

We identify with his shed blood…. We identify with the nails in his hands and the nail in his feet…we identify with his pierced bleeding side.. ..the thorny crown that was pushed down on his head….and we thank the Lord for the cleansing blood for us he shed….because without the shedding of Jesus blood…there would not be any remission for our sins…we identify with his death…and his burial… his resurrection and his ascending…the Holy Ghost power and His powerful promise…that He’s gone to prepare a place for us and because He has gone to prepare that place….that one day….He was coming back to receive us unto Himself … that where He is…one day we will be there also…

Yet, we aren't fully identifying with HIM

Yet my brothers and sisters, the premise I bring before us on this worship experience is, sometimes we forget that there’s more to Jesus than what he did for us on the earth! Don’t get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with us identifying with Jesus ‘earthly days, But if that’s all we do, we’re doing ourselves a disservice by relating to Jesus in only this way. That’s just 1/3rd of the total relationship we can have in Jesus. We can’t forget and must never forget that Jesus is more than an “earthly Jesus”….

We need to remember that:.He is the “eternal” Christ… He’s the second person in the Trinity… He is Alpha and Omega….The beginning and the ending…The first and the last….The One…who is…who was and who is to come…In Revelation 13:8 …Apostle John said: Jesus is the “Lamb” that was slain before the foundation of the world….This meant, in reality…that Calvary took place in heaven… long before there was a garden of Eden on earth….long before man was made in the image and likeness of God…and long before an “earthly Calvary” took place on Golgotha’s Hill outside the city of Jerusalem….

But as we close the door on 2013 and step into the foyer of 2014…I admonish each and every one of us to draw nearer to Jesus. And get to know Him up close and on a more personal basis. Why?

It’s doesn’t make sense to associate Jesus only by the atonement work on the cross. You ask why? Because Calvary was only the “centerpiece” and not his total work! As important as Calvary is to us. it was just one phase of the “total work” of Jesus. The songwriter put it this way:  At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light and the burden of my heart rolled away. It was there by faith I received my sight and now I am happy all the day. His atonement work reconnects us to our Heavenly Father who loves us but sin brought separation between us. The "finished" work on the cross allowed Jesus to lay down the "Prophet's mantle and put on His "Priestly robe and began to function in the role of the Priesthood as Our Great High Priest. His earthly work, as Important as it was doesn’t fully account for the “Priest Work”…that work of constant intercession in behalf the saints of God, as the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous goes up toward  the throne room of heaven…or what happens when He takes off that robe of intercession and puts on the robe of final judgment and comes back as King of Kings and Lords of Lords.

How can we fully identify with Jesus Christ?

Well, I’m glad you asked…There are 2 other ways we can fully identify with Jesus…

The “first” way is to identify with the “Alpha Jesus”….,

The “Alpha” Jesus, Who is HE?s… That’s the “In the beginning God Jesus” because in the Beginning Jesus in the Godhead helped create the heavens and the earth...That's the Jehovah-Elohim Jesus, who is the Creator, Revealer, and Our Redeemer   The Alpha Jesus is the EL-SHADDAI JESUS. who is The Almighty God. The Alpha Jesus is The YAHWEH- JEHOVAH JESUS, who is the I AM the Lord Jesus…The Alpha Jesus is the JEHOVAH- ELYON JESUS, because He is The Lord is God ./The Alpha Jesus is the Jehovah- Jireh Jesus, because He is the Lord My Provider Jesus… The alpha Jesus is the Jehovah-Reheka Jesus, because He is the Lord Our Healer Jesus. The Alpha Jesus is the Jehovah- Tsidqenu Jesus, that's because, He the Lord of Rrighteousness …The Jehovah-Tsdebaoth Jesus, because He is the Lord of Host . I come by to tell you there’s  Power in the Alpha Jesus….The Jehovah-Nissi Jesus…because HE is the conquering Lord Jesus…The Jehovah-Shalom Jesus….because HE is The God of Peace …

And when you spend time with the Alpha Jesus …you can understand more and more why Isaiah 9:6 and following verses said: Unto us a child is born. Unto us, a Son is given a. And the government shall be upon His shoulders. And His name shall be called Wonderful….Counselor…The Mighty God…The Everlasting Father….and the Prince of Peace…It was in the Alpha age...  the Creative Stage…“that Jesus” reveals  HIS “oneness” with the Father….I heard Jesus say…If you have seen Me….You have seen the Father… because ”I and the Father are one”….. The Alpha Jesus isThe “Creative Jesus” because “ all things were made by Him and for Him…and without him was nothing made.. ..that was ever made.. … The Alpha Jesus is The “let there be” light Jesus …..because this Jesus is the light of the world...The Alpha Jesus is the Living WORD…The WORD that was with God and the same WORD that was God…..The WORD bears witness to us in heaven and on earth

The "Omega" Jesus

Then finally…after you identify with the Alpha Jesus and combine that with the “right now Jesus… we need to identify with the “Omega Jesus” …Our soon coming King.. Our conquering King… Jesus said in John 14:1 let not your heart be troubled….you believe in God ..believe also in me for in my Father’s house are many mansions…and it is wasn’t so I would have told you…I go to prepare a place for you and if I go to prepare a place for you…I will come again to receive you unto myself that where I am…there  may you be also..We know him as our Savior…We know him as our mediator…He’s our advocate and our great High Priest…..but one of these days …He’s going to take off his priestly robe  and put on his royal crown and come back to get his church without a spot or a wrinkle….The Bible says the Lord will descend  from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first …And we who are alive and remain at his coming shall be changed in a moment and a twinkling of an eye and be caught up together with them that rose first from the dead and meet the Lord in the air Hallelujah Yeah……I heard the songwriter say when we all get to heaven…what a day of rejoicing that will be…when we all see Jesus we’ll sing and shout the victory….

The same king that will one day throw Satan in the bottomless pit and in the lake of fire….that same king that will one day wipe the tears from our eyes and do away with these wicked demons..

When we all get to heaven…What a day of rejoicing that will be…When we all see Jesus….We’ll sing and shout the victory…
